CAR Imaging Agents are a class of peptide-conjugated diagnostic tools developed by Vascular BioSciences for the targeted imaging of diseased pulmonary tissue. These agents utilize the CAR (CARSKNKDC) peptide, a 9-amino-acid cyclic peptide that selectively homes to and penetrates remodeled pulmonary arteries and hypertensive vasculature while sparing healthy tissue. By conjugating this targeting peptide to imaging probes, the technology allows for the specific detection and monitoring of pulmonary vascular diseases, including pulmonary hypertension, sepsis-induced lung injury, and COVID-19-related pulmonary complications. The agents are designed to bind specifically to diseased pulmonary vasculature to facilitate diagnostic imaging and are currently in preclinical development.
