Overview

CAR-M (chimeric antigen receptor-modified macrophages) is an adoptive cell therapy engineered to target and suppress tumor growth. These macrophages are modified with a chimeric antigen receptor that directs them to CCR7-positive cells. The cytosolic domain from the Mer receptor tyrosine kinase (MerTK) is incorporated to trigger tumor cell cytotoxicity. This mechanism aims to prevent metastasis and induce systemic anti-tumor immunity by inhibiting the migration of immunosuppressive cells from tumor tissues to distal immune organs. It is currently being investigated for the treatment of malignant tumors, including gliomas and brain metastases originating from breast and lung cancer.
