CAR-M-C-MET is an experimental chimeric antigen receptor macrophage (CAR-M) therapy developed by Peking Union Medical College Hospital. This cellular immunotherapy involves macrophages genetically modified to express a CAR targeting the c-MET (hepatocyte growth factor receptor) protein, which is frequently overexpressed in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. CAR-M cells are designed to overcome the physical and immunological barriers of solid tumors by actively infiltrating the tumor stroma, phagocytosing c-MET-expressing cancer cells, and stimulating a broader adaptive immune response through antigen presentation. It is currently being investigated in a Phase 1 investigator-initiated trial for patients with advanced-stage pancreatic cancer who have failed standard chemotherapy.
