CAR2 Anti-CD38 A2 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Sorrento Therapeutics for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). The therapy utilizes T cells transduced with a retroviral vector to express a CAR featuring a fully human antibody (lambda light chain) specific for CD38, a glycoprotein highly expressed on malignant plasma cells. In clinical trials (SOR-CART-MM-001), the cells were administered following lymphodepletion with cyclophosphamide. While the phase 1 study demonstrated safety and some objective responses, the durability was limited, and the program has been succeeded by an allogeneic dimeric antigen receptor (DART) version.
