Car4

Car4 is a preclinical biologic therapeutic being developed by NemaGen Discoveries for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The therapeutic is derived from carbonic anhydrase 4 (Car4), a cell surface enzyme that serves as a marker for alveolar macrophages. Preclinical research suggests that Car4 deficiency contributes to the pathogenesis of spontaneous emphysema and lung fibrosis, while treatment with Car4-derived biologics provides protective effects against these conditions. The program aims to leverage the protective role of CA4 in the lung microenvironment to mitigate inflammation and tissue damage.
