Caralluma edulis extract

Caralluma edulis extract is a botanical preparation derived from the stem of Caralluma edulis, a succulent perennial herb in the Apocynaceae family. Traditionally used in South Asian medicine for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, rheumatism, gastric problems, leprosy, and Alzheimer's disease[1][4]. The extract is typically prepared by boiling the stem in water or using hydroalcoholic extraction methods. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory (analgesic), anti-obesity[2], antihypertensive[2], anti-atherosclerotic[2], and anti-hyperlipidemic effects. The bioactivity is attributed to phytochemicals including sterols, terpenoids, flavonoids, pregnane glycosides[1][4], saponins and polyphenols. Mechanistically it may act via appetite suppression (possibly through pregnane glycosides) and cell cycle modulation (G1 arrest in pre-adipocyte cells)[5][8]. However clinical efficacy for diabetes reversal has not been established in animal models at tested doses[1][4].
