Sodium monofluorophosphate is included to mitigate post-bleaching tooth sensitivity, a common side effect of peroxide-based whitening. It works by releasing fluoride ions that promote the remineralization of hydroxyapatite and help occlude dentinal tubules, reducing the fluid movement that triggers nerve sensitivity. This specific formulation is being evaluated in clinical trials by the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital for the treatment of tooth staining.
