Carbamylated allergoid is a chemically modified allergen used in allergen-specific immunotherapy, particularly for respiratory allergies such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. The modification process involves selective carbamylation of lysine residues in the allergen protein using potassium cyanate at alkaline pH, resulting in reduced IgE-binding capacity (lower allergenicity) while preserving immunogenicity. Carbamylated allergoids are typically administered via sublingual or oromucosal tablets (e.g., Lais), which dissolve under the tongue and are then swallowed, allowing absorption through the oral mucosa and gastrointestinal tract. These preparations offer improved safety profiles compared to native allergens due to their lower risk of systemic reactions and resistance to enzymatic degradation[4][5][6].
