Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carbetocina GP-Pharm is a synthetic long-acting octapeptide analogue of oxytocin developed by GP Pharma. It functions as an oxytocin receptor agonist, binding to receptors on the smooth musculature of the uterus to induce rhythmic contractions and increase uterine tone. The drug is specifically indicated for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) in women following childbirth, particularly after cesarean section under epidural or spinal anesthesia. Due to its increased resistance to enzymatic degradation compared to natural oxytocin, carbetocin possesses a longer duration of action, allowing for a single-dose administration to prevent uterine atony and excessive bleeding.
