Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carbidopa and Levodopa Controlled-Release Tablets (25 mg/150 mg), also known as WD-1603, is an oral extended-release fixed-dose combination tablet developed by Shanghai WD Pharmaceutical for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The formulation contains 150 mg of levodopa, a dopamine precursor that crosses the blood-brain barrier to replenish depleted dopamine levels in the central nervous system, and 25 mg of carbidopa, a peripheral aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (DOPA decarboxylase) inhibitor that prevents the peripheral metabolism of levodopa. By utilizing a proprietary high-load/high-flux osmotic delivery system (Gi-Pump), WD-1603 is designed to provide stable levodopa plasma concentrations with minimal peak-to-trough fluctuations, potentially reducing motor fluctuations and slowing disease progression in patients with early-stage Parkinson's disease.
