Carbocysteine lysine salt (also known as carbocisteine lysine) is a mucolytic agent primarily developed and marketed by Dompé for the treatment of respiratory disorders characterized by excessive or viscous mucus. It is a salt form of carbocisteine (S-carboxymethyl-L-cysteine) combined with the amino acid L-lysine, a formulation designed to enhance solubility and improve gastric tolerability compared to the base molecule. The drug acts by reducing the viscosity of bronchial secretions through the cleavage of disulfide bonds in mucoproteins, thereby facilitating expectoration and improving airway clearance.
