Overview

The combination of carboplatin, cediranib, and paclitaxel is a treatment regimen that has been studied for metastatic or recurrent cervical cancer. This combination therapy showed significant efficacy in clinical trials, with improved progression-free survival and higher response rates compared to carboplatin and paclitaxel alone. It consists of three distinct agents: * **Carboplatin** is an alkylating agent and platinum-based chemotherapy drug that destroys quickly dividing cells, such as cancer cells. * **Paclitaxel** is a chemotherapy drug that also targets rapidly dividing cells. * **Cediranib** is a potent tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets VEGFR1, 2, and 3, making it an anti-angiogenic agent. It works by inhibiting tumor angiogenesis, which is particularly relevant in cervical cancer where high tumor angiogenesis and high concentrations of intratumoural VEGF are adverse prognostic features.
