Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination chemotherapy regimen used in clinical trials for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The regimen consists of three agents: carboplatin, a platinum-based alkylating agent; cisplatin, another platinum-based alkylating agent; and vindesine, a vinca alkaloid. The combination was investigated to determine if adding carboplatin to the established cisplatin and vindesine regimen would improve antitumor activity without increasing toxicity. Results from phase II studies showed that the addition of carboplatin did not significantly improve response rates or survival compared to cisplatin plus vindesine alone[1][10]. The main toxicities observed were hematologic (leukopenia, anemia) and gastrointestinal (nausea/vomiting), with less severe thrombocytopenia and minimal nephrotoxicity or neurotoxicity[1].
