Overview

This is a combination regimen consisting of four distinct anticancer agents: carboplatin, cisplatin, erlotinib, and gemcitabine. Each component has a different mechanism of action:\n\n- **Carboplatin** and **cisplatin** are platinum-based chemotherapeutic agents that cause DNA crosslinking and inhibit DNA synthesis, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells.\n- **Gemcitabine** is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporation into DNA strands during replication.\n- **Erlotinib** is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks EGFR signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation and survival.\n\nThese drugs are primarily used in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), often as part of multi-agent chemotherapy regimens. While combinations such as gemcitabine plus cisplatin or carboplatin plus paclitaxel are standard first-line therapies for NSCLC[3][4][7], the addition of erlotinib to platinum-based doublets has been studied but did not show significant survival benefit over chemotherapy alone in unselected patient populations[1][5]. The use of all four drugs together (carboplatin + cisplatin + erlotinib + gemcitabine) as a single regimen is not standard clinical practice; however, each component plays an established role in NSCLC therapy.
