This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three cytotoxic agents—carboplatin, cisplatin, and ifosfamide. Carboplatin and cisplatin are both platinum coordination complexes that form DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis by inhibiting DNA replication and transcription. Ifosfamide is an oxazaphosphorine alkylating agent that also induces cell death through DNA crosslinking. The combination leverages the non-overlapping toxicity profiles of carboplatin and cisplatin to increase total platinum dose intensity while adding ifosfamide for its proven efficacy in certain cancers such as ovarian cancer.
