Overview

This is a multi-agent chemotherapy and targeted therapy regimen combining five drugs commonly used in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly HER2-positive and/or high-risk subtypes. The regimen includes: - **Carboplatin** (a platinum-based alkylating agent) that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function. - **Cyclophosphamide** (an alkylating agent) that attaches to and damages DNA, preventing cell division. - **Doxorubicin** (an anthracycline antibiotic) that intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals leading to cytotoxicity. - **Paclitaxel** (a taxane) that stabilizes microtubules, preventing their disassembly which disrupts mitosis. - **Trastuzumab** (a monoclonal antibody targeting HER2/neu receptor), which blocks HER2 signaling pathways involved in cell growth and survival. This combination is designed for synergistic antitumor activity by attacking cancer cells through multiple mechanisms—DNA damage, inhibition of mitosis, and targeted blockade of growth factor signaling. It is primarily used as neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy for breast cancer but may be considered in other settings where all components are indicated[1][2][3][4].
