Overview

Carboplatin + epirubicin + ifosfamide is a combination chemotherapy regimen investigated for the treatment of various malignancies, including small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and high-risk or metastatic breast cancer. The regimen consists of three small molecule cytotoxic agents: carboplatin, a platinum-based compound that forms DNA cross-links; epirubicin, an anthracycline that inhibits DNA topoisomerase II and intercalates into DNA; and ifosfamide, an alkylating agent that causes DNA strand breaks. In clinical research, this combination has been evaluated both as a standard-dose therapy and as part of high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) protocols supported by autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). While the acronym "ICE" is frequently used for a different regimen containing etoposide, it has been applied to this specific triplet in certain clinical studies.
