Overview

This is a combination regimen of three drugs used in oncology. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis. Paclitaxel is a taxane chemotherapy that stabilizes microtubules, preventing cell division and causing cancer cell death[5][6][7]. Erlotinib is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, which blocks EGFR signaling pathways involved in cancer cell proliferation and survival[1][2]. The combination has been studied for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and other malignancies. In clinical trials, this regimen did not show a significant survival advantage over carboplatin plus paclitaxel alone in unselected NSCLC populations but may benefit certain subgroups such as never smokers or those with EGFR mutations[1][2].
