Overview

This combination involves **carboplatin**, a platinum-based chemotherapy drug; **gefitinib**, an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor; and **gemcitabine**, a nucleoside analog used in chemotherapy. The combination is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly in never smokers with advanced disease. Carboplatin and gemcitabine work by interfering with DNA replication in rapidly dividing cancer cells, while gefitinib blocks the EGFR signaling pathway, which is often overactive in certain cancers.
