carboplatin + paclitaxel + pegfilgrastim

Carboplatin + paclitaxel + pegfilgrastim is a combination chemotherapy and supportive care regimen developed by the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) for the treatment of advanced gynecologic malignancies. The regimen consists of carboplatin, a platinum-based antineoplastic agent that inhibits DNA synthesis via cross-linking; paclitaxel, a taxane that stabilizes microtubules to prevent mitotic progression; and pegfilgrastim, a pegylated recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) that promotes the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophils. This specific "dose-dense" biweekly protocol was evaluated in a Phase I feasibility study (GOG-9917) for patients with untreated Stage III and IV ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, and ovarian carcinosarcoma, aiming to improve efficacy by shortening the interval between treatments while managing hematologic toxicity.
