This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three agents: - **Carboplatin** is a platinum-based alkylating agent that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function, leading to cell death. - **Pemetrexed** is an antifolate antineoplastic agent that inhibits multiple folate-dependent enzymes involved in the de novo biosynthesis of thymidine and purine nucleotides, thereby disrupting DNA and RNA synthesis. - **Nab-paclitaxel** (nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel) is a microtubule inhibitor formulated as an albumin-bound nanoparticle. It stabilizes microtubules, preventing their depolymerization and thus inhibiting cell division. This combination has been investigated primarily for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly in patients with non-squamous histology or those who have received prior lines of therapy. The regimen leverages additive cytotoxicity from each component drug. Nab-paclitaxel offers improved delivery over conventional paclitaxel due to its albumin-bound formulation[1][3][8].
