Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CARBOTOX is an approved medical product developed and manufactured by Imuna Pharm in Slovakia. It is a combination therapy consisting of activated charcoal (320 mg) and sodium thiosulphate, formulated as oral tablets. Activated charcoal functions as an adsorbent, binding various toxic substances and gases within the gastrointestinal tract to prevent their systemic absorption. Sodium thiosulphate acts as a neutralizing agent for specific poisons and exerts a mild laxative effect to assist in the evacuation of the digestive tract. CARBOTOX is indicated for the treatment of acute diarrhea, food poisoning, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and gastritis, and is also utilized in diagnostic imaging of the gallbladder and bile ducts.
