Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zonasoft is an over-the-counter ophthalmic lubricant formulation containing carboxymethylcellulose sodium (0.5% w/v) and glycerin (0.5% w/v), developed and marketed by Sapient Laboratories. It is indicated for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort associated with dry eye disease, digital eye strain, and environmental exposure to wind or sun. Carboxymethylcellulose acts as a viscosity-enhancing polymer that binds to corneal epithelial cells to lubricate and protect the ocular surface, while glycerin serves as an ophthalmic demulcent and humectant that attracts and retains moisture, stabilizing the tear film. The formulation also contains stabilized oxychloro complex as an oxidative preservative that breaks down into natural tear components (sodium chloride and water) upon contact with the eye.
