Overview

Carboxymethylpachymaran (CMP) is a water-soluble polysaccharide created by the carboxymethylation of pachymaran, which is extracted from the sclerotium of the fungus *Poria cocos* (also known as Fuling). [2] This modification enhances its water solubility and biological activity. [10] Research indicates that CMP possesses various physiological effects, including immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. [2, 3] It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of several cancer cell lines in vitro, such as HepG-2, HT-29, and MCF-7. [2, 5] The mechanism is believed to involve immune regulation, such as increasing the secretion of cytokines like IFN-γ and IL-2. [2] In a clinical trial, it is being studied as an oral nutritional supplement to improve the nutritional status and quality of life for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. The trial is sponsored by Guangzhou Enternutr Biotechnology Co, Ltd.
