Overview

CarbZDChin is a novel carborane-based small molecule analog of the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) inhibitor Rev-5901. It is designed to target inflammatory pathways involved in cancer progression by inhibiting the conversion of polyunsaturated fatty acids into inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes. In preclinical studies, CarbZDChin has demonstrated significant anticancer activity against colorectal carcinoma, showing superior in vivo efficacy compared to its parent compound Rev-5901 and the related analog CarbZDNaph. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of caspase-dependent apoptosis and cytoprotective autophagy in malignant cells. Preclinical in vivo experiments have reported tumor growth attenuation in animals treated with CarbZDChin.
