Carcinoembryonic antigen peptides are short amino acid fragments derived from the larger carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) protein, which is overexpressed in several cancer cell types including gastrointestinal, breast, and non-small cell lung cancers[1][4]. These peptides are used primarily in research and experimental immunotherapeutic strategies. For example, specific fragments such as CEA(101-115) have been shown to bind strongly to certain proteins on liver cells and may play a role in the development of hepatic metastases[5]. In cancer therapy research, CEA-derived peptides can be used as antitumor vaccines designed to elicit immune responses against tumor cells expressing the parent protein. The mechanism of action involves presentation of these peptides by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules on immune cells to stimulate cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses targeting tumor cells that express CEA[4]. These approaches remain investigational.
