CardiAMP is an autologous cell therapy system developed by BioCardia, designed to treat heart failure and chronic myocardial ischemia. The procedure involves extracting a patient's own bone marrow, which is then processed at the point of care using a proprietary concentration kit to isolate a specific population of mononuclear cells. These cells are delivered directly into the heart muscle (intramyocardially) using the Helix transendocardial delivery system. The therapeutic effect is primarily attributed to paracrine signaling, where the injected cells release cytokines and growth factors that stimulate angiogenesis, modulate inflammation, and promote the repair of damaged cardiac tissue. It is currently in late-stage clinical development, notably the Phase 3 CardiAMP HF trial for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
