Overview

Cardioplexol is a proprietary, ready-to-mix **crystalloid cardioplegic solution** for induction of rapid, prolonged diastolic cardiac arrest and myocardial protection during adult open-heart surgery using conventional or miniaturized extracorporeal circulation. It is a fixed combination of potassium chloride, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, procaine hydrochloride, and xylitol supplied as two solutions that are mixed immediately before use. Hyperkalemia produces depolarized cardiac arrest, while procaine contributes sodium-channel blockade and magnesium helps suppress calcium-dependent electrical activity. Swiss Cardio Technologies developed and holds the global license for Cardioplexol; the product is marketed in Switzerland by Medius and is reported by the developer to be approved in Switzerland and multiple European countries.
