Overview

Cardiovascular progenitor cell-derived extracellular vesicle-enriched secretome (EV-CPC) is an investigational cell-free regenerative therapy developed by Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP). It consists of the secretome of cardiovascular progenitor cells (CPCs)—which are themselves derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)—specifically enriched for extracellular vesicles (EVs) such as exosomes. The therapy is designed to treat non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) by delivering a complex cargo of bioactive proteins and microRNAs directly to the myocardium. These molecules exert therapeutic effects through paracrine signaling, promoting cardiomyocyte survival, stimulating angiogenesis, and modulating the local inflammatory response to prevent adverse cardiac remodeling. This approach aims to provide the regenerative benefits of stem cell therapy while avoiding the risks associated with cell engraftment, such as tumorigenicity or immune rejection.
