careseng

Careseng is a concentrated extract of **dammarane sapogenins** derived from ginseng, primarily *Panax* species, developed as an oral anti-cancer and supportive care dietary supplement and experimental medicinal product. Its purported mechanisms of action include inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation, promoting differentiation of cancer cells into benign cells, and blocking P-glycoprotein (a key marker and driver of multi-drug resistance in various cancers). The main active component is **20(S)-protopanaxadiol (PPD)**. Preclinical and preliminary clinical evidence suggests Careseng may be useful for chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression, with an initial focus in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Careseng is available in softgel and sachet formulations. Development for pharmaceutical indications has primarily been undertaken in East Asia and Canada, and some trials have been terminated or withdrawn prior to completion. No major regulatory approvals as a pharmaceutical drug are known as of August 2025.
