Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carica papaya flesh with peel aqueous extract is a botanical preparation derived from the unripe fruit of the papaya tree, traditionally utilized in various folk medicine practices for managing diabetes. The extract contains bioactive phytochemicals that inhibit the activities of alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, the primary enzymes involved in the hydrolysis of dietary carbohydrates into glucose. By slowing down glucose absorption, the extract helps mitigate hyperglycemia. Furthermore, it demonstrates protective effects on the pancreas by inhibiting lipid peroxidation, which is often induced by oxidative stress in diabetic conditions. While primarily studied in vitro and in traditional settings, it represents a natural product approach to metabolic regulation.
