carindacillin

Carindacillin is a penicillin antibiotic and an oral prodrug of carbenicillin. It was developed for the treatment of acute and chronic infections of the upper and lower urinary tract and in asymptomatic bacteriuria due to susceptible bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus species (including Proteus mirabilis), Enterobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Morganella morganii (formerly Proteus morganii), Providencia rettgeri (formerly Proteus rettgeri), and Enterococcus. After oral administration, it is hydrolyzed in the intestinal mucosa to release active carbenicillin. The drug acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins[1][3][7].
