Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cariprazine Depot is a long-acting subcutaneous injectable formulation of the atypical antipsychotic cariprazine, developed by Mapi Pharma using its proprietary Depot technology. The drug is designed for once-monthly administration to treat schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, and major depressive disorder. As a small molecule, it functions as a potent dopamine D3 and D2 receptor partial agonist, notably exhibiting a higher affinity for D3 receptors compared to D2. It also acts as a partial agonist at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors. This long-acting formulation aims to improve therapeutic adherence and reduce the risk of relapse in patients with chronic psychiatric conditions compared to daily oral cariprazine therapy.
