This is a combination ophthalmic formulation containing carmellose sodium (also known as carboxymethylcellulose sodium, CMC) and hyaluronic acid (HA, often in the form of its salt, sodium hyaluronate). Both are polymers used as lubricants and artificial tears for the symptomatic relief of dry eye disease. Carmellose sodium acts by binding to corneal epithelial cells via glucose receptors, increasing tear film stability and promoting corneal healing. Hyaluronic acid provides viscoelasticity and water retention, mimicking natural tears to hydrate and protect the ocular surface. The combination leverages both agents' lubricating properties to improve symptoms of dry eye more effectively than either alone in some studies. This product is primarily indicated for dry eye syndrome but may also be used post-ocular surgery or for other causes of ocular surface irritation[2][3][5][6].
