Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carnidrop is a hypo-osmolar lubricant eye drop solution developed for the management of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). The formulation is designed to restore physiological osmolarity to the tear film, which is typically hyperosmolar in dry eye patients. It contains a combination of osmolytes, primarily **L-carnitine** and **taurine**, which provide osmoprotection to the corneal epithelial cells by preventing hyperosmotic stress-induced damage and apoptosis. Additionally, it contains **sodium hyaluronate**, a mucomimetic polymer that enhances tear film stability and provides long-lasting lubrication. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Carnidrop significantly improves fluorescein break-up time (FBUT) and the Ocular Protection Index (OPI) compared to other standard lubricant solutions, indicating superior tear film quality and ocular surface protection.
