Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carnisin is a pharmaceutical formulation of levocarnitine (L-carnitine) developed and marketed by Megat Pharmaceutical. It is provided as a sugar-free oral solution containing 1 g of levocarnitine per 10 ml. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of primary and secondary carnitine deficiencies, which can occur due to genetic metabolic disorders, chronic renal failure requiring dialysis, malnutrition, or increased physiological demand during pregnancy and childhood growth. By replenishing carnitine levels, Carnisin supports the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy production via beta-oxidation, thereby addressing symptoms associated with deficiency such as cardiomyopathy and skeletal muscle weakness.
