Overview

CarnoSyn SR is a patented, sustained-release formulation of the non-essential amino acid beta-alanine, developed by Natural Alternatives International, Inc. (NAI). As a precursor to carnosine synthesis, it effectively increases muscle carnosine levels, which serves as an intracellular pH buffer and antioxidant. Unlike standard beta-alanine, the sustained-release delivery system allows for higher dosing with a significant reduction in paresthesia (tingling sensation) and provides extended absorption. It is primarily marketed as a nutraceutical for enhancing sports performance (endurance and recovery), supporting cognitive function in older adults, and promoting healthy aging across cardiovascular, muscular, and immune systems.
