Overview

Carpinus caroliniana pollen is an allergen extract derived from the American hornbeam tree, also known as blue-beech or ironwood. It is primarily used as a diagnostic biological product in allergy testing to identify hypersensitivity in patients with suspected allergic rhinoconjunctivitis or other pollen-related conditions. The extract contains the naturally occurring proteins from the pollen of the Carpinus caroliniana plant. When administered via skin prick or intradermal testing, the allergens in the extract cross-link specific IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells and basophils, triggering the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators that produce a visible wheal-and-flare reaction in sensitized individuals.
