Overview

CarraSorb FDG (Freeze-Dried Gel) is a sterile, preservative-free wound dressing containing acemannan, a polydispersed acetylated mannan extracted from *Aloe vera* gel. Developed by Carrington Laboratories, it received FDA 510(k) clearance in 1996 as a medical device for the management of wounds and burns. The product is a freeze-dried hydrogel that rehydrates upon contact with wound exudate to form a moldable gel, maintaining a moist healing environment. Beyond its physical properties, acemannan exhibits biological activity by stimulating macrophages and modulating the release of cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukins, thereby enhancing the natural wound-healing process and natural killer (NK) cell activity.
