Carrington Dermal Wound Gel is a clear, viscous hydrogel dressing indicated for the management of various wound types, including pressure ulcers, stasis ulcers, and first- and second-degree burns. The primary active component is acemannan, a complex acetylated mannan polysaccharide extracted from *Aloe barbadensis*. The gel functions by creating and maintaining a moist wound environment, which is essential for optimal healing and facilitates autolytic debridement of necrotic tissue. Mechanistically, acemannan is believed to enhance the healing process by stimulating macrophages and inducing the secretion of wound-healing cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-1) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), thereby bridging the gap between a passive physical barrier and an active therapeutic agent.
