CART-138

CART-138 is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy that targets CD138 (syndecan-1), a surface marker highly expressed on multiple myeloma cells. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own T cells, genetically modifying them to express a receptor that recognizes CD138, and then reinfusing them back into the patient. Upon administration, these engineered T cells can identify and selectively destroy CD138-expressing tumor cells. Some CART-138 constructs use the 4-1BB (CD137) co-stimulatory domain instead of CD28 to improve cytotoxicity and reduce excessive T-cell activation.
