CART123 is a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy designed to target CD123, a protein highly expressed on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells and leukemic stem cells. This immunotherapy involves engineering a patient's own T cells (autologous) or donor T cells (allogeneic) to express a receptor that recognizes CD123, enabling them to identify and kill CD123-positive cancer cells. The therapy has shown potent anti-leukemic activity in preclinical studies but faces challenges in clinical settings, including cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and potential impact on normal hematopoiesis due to CD123 expression on normal hematopoietic cells.
