Carteolol

Carteolol is a nonselective beta-adrenergic antagonist (beta-blocker) primarily used in ophthalmology to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It acts by blocking both beta1 and beta2 adrenergic receptors in the ciliary body of the eye, leading to decreased production of aqueous humor and thus reduced intraocular pressure. Carteolol has partial agonist (intrinsic sympathomimetic) activity but lacks significant membrane-stabilizing effects. It is generally administered as an ophthalmic solution and may be used alone or with other agents for glaucoma management. Systemically, carteolol has also been used for arrhythmia, angina, and hypertension[1][2][4][6][8].
