Overview

CartiLife is an autologous cell therapy developed by Biosolution Co., Ltd. for the treatment of articular cartilage defects in the knee. The product consists of pellet-type (or bead-type) extracellular matrix-associated autologous chondrocytes derived from the patient's own costal (rib) cartilage. Unlike traditional autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) which typically utilizes articular cartilage, CartiLife uses costal chondrocytes that are expanded and cultured to form small, spherical pellets containing chondrocytes and their associated extracellular matrix. These pellets are surgically implanted into the cartilage defect to promote the regeneration of hyaline-like tissue and restore joint function, while avoiding the donor-site morbidity associated with harvesting healthy articular cartilage.
