*Carum carvi*, commonly known as caraway or black zeera, is a botanical extract from the Apiaceae family that has been investigated for its impact on thyroid function. In clinical research conducted by the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, the administration of *Carum carvi* seed extract in capsule form (approximately 40 mg/kg/day) was found to significantly elevate thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in patients with hypothyroidism or thyroid carcinoma who were receiving levothyroxine suppression therapy. The exact mechanism of action remains uncharacterized, though it is suggested that the extract may interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of levothyroxine or modulate the peripheral metabolism of thyroid hormones. Historically, *Carum carvi* has been utilized in traditional medicine for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties, as well as for conditions such as dyspepsia.
