Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a comparison of two beta-blocker medications used for treating hypertension and heart failure. Both are third-generation beta-blockers with vasodilatory properties but with different mechanisms of action. **Carvedilol** is a non-selective beta-blocker that blocks both beta-1 and beta-2 adrenoreceptors as well as alpha-1 receptors. It has additional antioxidant, anti-proliferative, anti-endothelin, and anti-apoptotic properties. **Nebivolol** is a highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker with nitric oxide-dependent vasodilator and antioxidant effects. It produces vasodilation through the L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway.
