Overview

Carvedilol + prazosin is a combination of two antihypertensive agents, each with distinct but complementary mechanisms of action. Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist with additional alpha-1 adrenergic blocking activity, used primarily for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction. Prazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and decreasing peripheral resistance. The combination may theoretically provide additive antihypertensive effects; however, concurrent use increases the risk of adverse effects such as hypotension due to dual alpha-1 blockade. This combination should be used cautiously and typically only under special circumstances with close monitoring[2][7][5][4].
