Carya glabra pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the pignut hickory tree (*Carya glabra*). It is primarily used as a diagnostic agent in percutaneous (scratch/prick) and intradermal skin testing to identify patients with hypersensitivity to hickory tree allergens. Beyond diagnosis, the extract is also utilized in allergen immunotherapy (hyposensitization therapy), where it is administered subcutaneously in gradually increasing doses to induce clinical tolerance and reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and pollen-induced asthma. As a biological product, it contains a complex profile of proteins that serve as the active allergenic components. It is often available as a standalone extract or as part of a standardized hickory pollen mix.
