Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Caryocar brasiliense extract, commonly known as pequi extract, is a botanical extract derived from the fruit, bark, or leaves of the Caryocar brasiliense tree, native to the Brazilian Cerrado. Rich in phenolic compounds, carotenoids, and fatty acids, the extract has been investigated for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and antimicrobial properties. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its antivirulence activity against opportunistic pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, where it significantly reduces motility, protease secretion, and biofilm formation. It is also studied for its potential cardioprotective and endothelial benefits in diabetic models.
