Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Casacol is an over-the-counter expectorant and bronchodilator syrup indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and chest congestion associated with the common cold, bronchitis, and other respiratory tract conditions. It is formulated as a sugar-free syrup containing three active ingredients: methoxyphenamine hydrochloride, guaifenesin, and sodium citrate. Methoxyphenamine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic agent that selectively stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors to promote bronchodilation and ease breathing. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant by increasing the volume and reducing the viscosity of respiratory tract secretions, facilitating their clearance. Sodium citrate acts as a saline expectorant and systemic alkaliser, helping to liquefy thick, tenacious mucus. Casacol is developed and marketed by Phoenix Laboratories.
